I'm having a hell of a time finding compatible front hub dust caps for my 53 Desoto. I've tried Napa, and all the other usual places. I believe they are 1-15/16" X 1-1/4" deep. Any clue where to pick up a set?
Have you tried Andy Bernbaum Auto Parts? He has a lot of NOS and reproduction MOPAR parts, 617-244-1118 or www.oldmoparts.com.
DO they need to be new? If not try Brian's salavage and Junk in American Canyon on Green Island road He has lots of 50's Mopars.
I had a similar problem with my 50 Plymouth coupe. I tried everywhere I could in 3-4 Central California towns. Finally gave up and bought a pair that were close. (They may have been new trailer caps, but I'm not sure.) Bored out the brake drum hub and popped the new caps in. Funny part about the few junkyard 50's era ChryCo's I found was that the dust caps were all missing....
I've been to Brian's a couple times, I just can't justify driving there for dust caps. I'll try Andy. I wish I knew about that place before I ordered new brake cylinders... all I needed were new pistons. EDIT: Andy doesn't have em. I'm half tempted to try to make my own
Worth a try a lot of people don't know thats where all the early 50's Mopars go to die in the bay area.
Ok maybe I'll try. Does he ever let people roam his yard, look for things? I've debated swapping out the bumpers with something later model desoto/chrysler.
No not too many can wander that yard freely, hes old school about that. I've even heard him tell people that out back is is personal car collection nothing for sale except whats up front LOL, yeah I spit beer out my nose that day. Show up with a six pack of Budwieser and sit on the porch for a while you'll get better service, Brians got some good stories, I always set aside a day to go out there.
I have the set off of my 53. You are welcome to them. I should be in North Carolina tonight, so they could go out friday or saturday at the latest. PM me your address.
Hey thanks guys, Pins I'll msg you first since you posted first but also thank you heavytlc. I should give Brian a call and head up there again sometime with some beer. Thanks again.
