did chevy ever put the starter on the driver's side?
or am I going to have to modify a stock cover to get it to fit around the starter on the driver's side?
    or just leave it open?

Nope, sorry Rick. Even the old 216 six had the starter on the passenger side. I think I’d leave it open.

Were the dowel pins already pressed into the adapter for the GM trans?

Some kits online are indicating starter location for either side and of the hose the dowels are not in place. Is the adapter capable of being flipped???

Oldsmobiles had the starter on driver side, and although the BOP trans has a different mounting area, the bottom was the same, or sure looked like it. So maybe an Olds dustcover will work.

There’s also universal covers with no cut out.

    yeah, maybe the universal one

  13. It seems a stock/reproduction dust cover for that trans could have a notch carved in it for the left side starter.

My olds has a T400 and the starter on the drivers side. It would likely fit. The bell is different but the shield may not be. Just plastic, easily modified/
