Duz music make a diff to you?

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Anchorboy46, Apr 18, 2010.

  1. It's difficult to trust people who don't need music. I need a little bit of 'Lucinda', junkyard 'Waits', and some 'Bugs Henderson' just to be able to function in the Studio, Garage, or Cruisin'. I need my tunes !

Whether I'm striping, doing art, wrenching or driving, I always need music! Everything from 80's thrash to S.T. to Fu Manchu! A little 60 hot rod/beach boys once in a while...

These old cars are like time-machines to me, and listening to oldies helps to complete the mood/ambiance while driving or working on them.

Hook the ipod up to the boom-box, and, "Heart and soul...I fell in love with you..." Love it.

  9. I like music while I'm working, but I find it distracting when I'm trying to dance.

CASH, Hank W., G. Jones, The Misfits are very common in the 'Heavy'...
Oldies, Punk (Nothing newer than '85?), 70's R&B, and Old School Metal...in the shop.

And as much as Music is part of my life...some of it I just die inside when I hear...like if someone shows up with Poison, Motley Crew, or BonJovi...I will politely...and very switfly usher them to the door...I can't stand to hear any of that ****...

I'm going to go crank 'the Kinks' right now...that sounds like a great idea...

Fu Manchu is the ****s!!! I have it filed under "60's Surf Van/Skateboard thrash Music"...for some reason that's what I picture in my head when listening to them...

    Yes.
I highly regulate the tunes in the shop.
Had to part ways with one mechanic because he was always putting shop radio on the dance techno disco.
Told him I was not going to live my life listening to that, so either the techno goes, he goes, or I go.
    Well, I am still there.

He is/was a great guy, but I am not running a disco.

No, never got into the music thing, often wonder how much money I've saved over the years. Just think of all the types of records tapes, CD's and the devices to play them that you constantly have to replace to keep up with the guy with the latest deal. Are LP's good for anything besides target practice?

  23. LPs are great for forming into WHY. A quick dunk in hot water and you can form them into any shape, a dunk in cold stiffens them back up again. I made a whole medeival suit of armour for halloween once, fabbed a form for a shifter tunnel then fibregl***ed over, be creative. Target practice is still a good one, especially old BeeGees albums.

  24. Need to grove to the tunes and maybe a little two step to get in the mood for fabbin up something. I find using tin foil over my head helps the reception . Rob.

  27. WHAT?? Of course they are! You could collect 'em. We have some very nice LPs. Shoot, the sale of one (sold for $375) helped finance the purchase of our T roadster body. Yeah it was a kinda rare record (only 100 pressed...ever) but when there is a pretty nice steel T body in the mix, anything goes. Seeing that this is still the HAMB, and I know there are rules, here are some of our automotive related LPs. The first one, I found at an old couples garage sale, and had to wade through a stack of 80's country before I found it. Who would've guessed. The cover was nowhere to be found.

If you're "not into the music thing", I guess it doesn't matter, but the cost isn't really an issue anymore. There are lots of P2P applications that enable you to download all the music you want for free on the internet. Try Frostwire. I've got about 4,500 tunes...so far. I know people that have tens of thousands.

Hell yeah, gotta have it, Muddy Waters-Cash-CCR-Deep Purple-ZZ Top... anything with guitars and a backbone.

  30. Look at my avatar pic; take a guess.

    QFT!

Whatever happened to rock and roll? Everybody grew a goatee, started wearing flannel, and *****ing about how tough their life was, just because they had to cope with some existential crisis centered around a vague feeling of ennui?

Rock and roll really took a **** with the grunge era (IMO)... for the record, I'm from Seattle, was a twenty-something living here in the 1990's, and never got into Alice in Chains or Pearl Jam.

Just punched 'em up on last.fm; good stuff!
