    I built a 1948 Mercury Coupe with a 1970 Ford Fairlane 500 8" rear end.

I want to connect the original 1948 Mercury e-brake cable to cables from the 8 " rear end.

I don't have any cables from the rear end forward.

Original cables for the 8" rear are only about 18" long and that misses the original 1948 Mercury cable by about another 18".

Any suggestions on what parts I need?

    Thank you, Larry

You can look for other cables. A lot of times you can scroll through Rockauto site and see lengths for other vehicles. Or just buy a universal cable set that you cut to length.

So assuming the mercury parts are the same as the ford parts because the mercs added length is mostly forward of the firewall I found the best option is Lokar “universal length/ cut to fit” cables for the rear axle and then they make a set up to attach to the stock e brake handle and connect to the universal rear cables.

I spent years trying to find a cheaper way to go about it and I just couldn’t come up with something that was as functional for the money at that time.

that being said it’s still sitting on the shelf un installed but I think @IronTrap used a similar if not same set up on the 47 ford coupe they install the ebrake stuff on in a video a while back.

    - a while back meaning between 11 and 111 months, I’ll see if I can find it for you

  5. Junkyard run. Find whole rear cable housing you need, length wise and use your stock horseshoe bracket. Or cut the cable, get another bracket to hold 2 cables, buy 2 end kits and put on the ends on both cables, then hook it to you stock front cable end.

The original EB forward cable sheath end was mounted about 12" down the torque tube and then had a balance bracket attached to the core and the rear EB cable looped around that.
I used a 1940 front cable that is ~10" shorter and then drilled a hole to suit the cable sheath mounting into the bottom rear of the X member. Fitted the original balance bracket to it and had a new custom EB cable made to suit my rear axle with the two rear outer sheathes and their chassis mounts incorporated. Don't use those shitty screw on ends, get the OEM type professionally installed by the cable manufacturer.
