Hey guys, Looking to put an ebrake back into my 46 ford. Looking at the options available I’m not seeing a real clear reason I couldn’t use the stock ford set up but attached to the brakes on the 9 inch ford instead of the banjo. The only modification that stares me in the face is originally a tab was located on the torque tube towards the front of the car to locate and hold the end of the forward cable. But it seems a small 90 deg tab/bracket off the X member should be able to accomplish that pretty easy. I just figured I’d ask before I order parts in case I’m missing something
Your headed the right direction. I have used the O.E. stuff with small mod's on nearly every rear end change I've done and I've changed over many rear axles.
Cool. I’m kinda curious what I should do about the point the cable exits the backing plate. Stock 9” has a sheathed cable and I think stock 46 has a little boot that cover the cable end. Any thoughts on that? I can see a few ways around it either way just wanting some feed back/ ideas as I’ve never done this bit before. Thanks
I don't know how the cables are set up on your original car, but.. I use the brake cables designed for what ever rear axle I'm using. Then I connect an intermediate cable to both side cables from the rear brakes using what ever cable attachment parts the modern cables use. I make a "T" to connect to the front cable going to the e brake handle and hook it to the intermediate cable. Depending on how the front cable is routed, you may have to fabricate a steel loop to hold the passenger side of the intermediate cable up to the frame or trans crossmember.
