There is a few ways to do the adaptor. 1. Quicktime makes a bell to adapt an FE pattern to AOD. You have to cut the AOD bell off, but that can be done in about 15 mins with a grinder and cutoff wheel. The AOD pump then bolts to the Quicktime bell with longer bolts. You need to pay close attention to the input shaft depth with what ever convertor you use. I ended up having to machine another 1/8" off the pump face to get the correct depth on a 390 FE to AOD conversion I did a number of years ago. 2. Take a Cruis-O bell and use an adaptor plate to bolt to the AOD pump. Same operation as before, pay attention to clearances and depth. I had Broader Transmission build an AOD with this setup for me. Works great, would do it again, no questions asked. 3. Bendtsens Adaptor. Goes between the Engine and Trans bell. Works great, kinda spendy, and pushes the trans rearwords about 1.5" to 2", depending on the application. Bolt in, and easy to work with, if you have the room.
here is the only picture I have. I first thought that was a manual bell housing. Now I guess it might be a cruise o Matic bell. There is a lot to know about fo mo co.
That’s the old style FE bellhousing, if I am seeing it right! My transmission won’t fit, but that opens you up to more available transmissions. Good luck with your MEL. And yes that is an automatic transmission bellhousing. Bones
