Ok, we were at another thread and someone wanted pics of our chassis. Rather than step on the other guys thread, we decided to step on yours Rocky.:D This shot shows the axle, and the boomerang steering. I'll look for a closer view too. [IMG]

Been there. Feel helpless when your strapped in and the wheels flop over. The steering isnt strong enuff and or is too springy to overcome this. That is why you will need a attentive crew member to help in a situation like this.

Yeah it hurts big time.:( Another trick if no one shows up to grab a front wheel is to put it back in forward gear and let it roll forward, the wheels will straighten right up. Put her back in reverse and continue......:D Slowly.

Years ago they used to make shorty kits for a number of trans. This one is not marked by a manufacturer and may be custom built. I know the C-4 Ford Shorty kit and naturally the popular Powerglide are available. Hamber Old6rodder shortened his manual trans on his HAMB dragster himself, cutting down the tail housing and having a machine shop respline the shaft I believe. If I were looking for a T350 or T400 shorty kit I would start with A-1 Transmissions first. Rocky

Our little 296 (283 + .090) was dropped off today, thought I'd add the pics to the thread
Drug out a Mallory distributor I've had on loan from a good friend for a while.

Need to build these 461 casting heads we've had for a while off of Lee's IMCA

The 296 is in really good shape with a 10 10 steel crank

  16. Tim,
Thank-you for the detail pictures of the trans/ rear axle of your project. That area was always covered on the dragsters and I never really knew how they did it or what components they used. Thanks for educating me... and oh yeah, it looks great..

  17. A little more progress today. Motor plates front and rear fitted and tabs welded in. I also got my axles ordered, those guys aint cheep. :p The engine will be going together soon, the block is clean and on a stand in my garage all the parts are here.:D

  27. OK! a little update here. Not a whole lot of progress but it takes a while to make each piece, also we decided to cut out and replace the king-pin bosses in the Mark Williams axle because they where kinda puny lookin' and I got such nice ones with the spindles. ;)

front axle mount, actually got this idea looking at one of Tommy Ivos old cars.

Got some gauges this week too. :)

cam bearing going into the block.

The cam and lifters are an old combo out of the "Yellow Brick" still good and I think will work better in this engine since it will have more cubes than the truck engine. ;)

With the weather being great and Tim making great progress I decided to get after our project. The biggest thing on my mind right now is the chassis so I put the porta power to it and got it straight.
These photos show how bad it was...............

Here I used the porta power with a c-clamp, both with shoes I made...
Here is the final product, I plan on putting uprights were the bends were, the pictures don't do it justice.

And then there are the GOODIES:D Polished the wheels
    [IMG]
and got some Corvette covers back from a friend.
I also disassembled the 283 getting it ready for the machine shop, long ways to go. Rocky
