The Fresno Dragways Reunion III, Dedicated to my Dear Friend Lynn Hammond

Eagle Field's Fresno Dragways Reunion Special Guest Ray Silva started racing in 1964 when he traveled to Turlock CA (which he now calls home) from San Jose to purchase his 1st Dragster. The dragster was then fitted with a Blown 348 he purchased from Sid Waterman. After the 348 expired Ray raced a Modified Crosley with a V8 until 1965 when he built another Dragster to race in the Jr Fuel Category. Ray raced the Jr Fuel until his country called him for duty.
After serving our country Ray built a D/Dragster (very simular to todays car) that with 11 straight wins at Fremont won him his Track Jacket. Ray continued to race and chase points until 1969 when he and partner Frank Alves decided two engines were better than one and built a Twin Engine Dragster. The two raced the Twin until 1971 when Ray decided to focus on family.
Today with his family grown Ray has built another Dragster to race for the Fun Of It! Ray purchased his current car from late friend Roy Victor, a 1971 Jim Davis former Top Fuel car that he has updated to meet NHRA requirements. The car is very similar to his original D/Dragster with the engine built much like him and one time brother-in-law Arnold Schaves of Dos Palmas Machine Fame had done. The differences are this 292 Chevy 6 is equipped with Mechanical Fuel Injection and coupled to a Powerglide.
Rays original D/Dragster ran 9.80's @ 141, his current car has yet to have performances recorded However I hope Ray will return for our LIONS Drag Race on Sunday and "put it through the eyes" for a Time Slip!
Hope you join us! Rocky Phillips

Tonight I lost a Dear Friend by the name of Lynn Hammond. Lynn was part uncle and part Big brother to me, always good for a Joke, Story or a helping hand. When he told a story I would soak it up like a little kid, I'm sure he embellished some but he lived and loved friends and cars. Lynn was also intramental in my pursuit to have an Eagle Field event.
Lynn came into my life in the 80's and after getting to know him I found he'd known me since I was baby as his Dad and mine used to Jeep together. After I started working with him and talking to people we knew I stated joking with him that "I wasn't sure whether to shake a persons hand or DUCK" after mentioning his name. All I can say is I loved the guy and will miss him:(. The Fresno Dragway Reunion Race will be dedicated to Lynn, God Speed my friend, Rocky

I just heard about Lynn's passing, and I am on the side that really liked him and his stories also. My heart aches tonight and I will send up prayers for Stan and the rest of the family also.

Very cool-thanks! We are all very excited. We should have a couple willy's down there and a few other surprises that you'll like. Still not clear how many of us will make the trip/which cars are going, etc but we will have a handful of people and cars coming for sure.

Can you give me an idea of what tech is like? My coupe doesn't have belts or anything like that. But then again, it's only a little warmed up banger motor. Is it pretty relaxed? Just want to know so I can make sure I can make a few passes if I drag her all the way down there.
