Can any of you Mopar guys tell me exactly what manual steering boxes are interchangeable with my '52 Desoto Firedome? I have a power box in mine but it interferes with the 318 in it and I just want to keep it low-buck for now to get it on the road. I have a lead on a '55/'56 Desoto box locally but not sure if it will work.

Also, does the steering arm interchange between the manual and power box.

did you look at off setting the engine to the p*** side??? There is enough room to make a 318 clear the regelar box. you can also try to find the exaust manifold that exits up and back almost at the level of the valve covers.

I just bought this car. The front mounts are well done and already in place but the rear ****** mount isn't done because the motor can't be squared up because of the p/s box interfering with the starter. I would rather just replace it with a manual box and fab up a new ****** mount. The motor has new Hedman block huggers so I don't want to replaqce those either.

  4. Can you fit a mini starter in there? I had the same problem with a 455 into a 63 Tempest, and a mini starter did the trick...
