Does anyone know why ford and mercury put there side mirrors on the fenders instead of the doors?? I have seen them both ways I was just wondering if it meant anything or not Sent from my iPhone using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
The mirrors were installed by the dealers (wheel covers/hubcaps, factory mirrors and radio antennas were shipped in the trunk), so it was hit-or-miss as to where they were installed....
As mentioned, most were dealer installed. With the late 50's wraparound windshield, if you put them too far forward on the door, the windshield pillar gets in the way of the view. The best view is beside the vent wing but it may prevent the vent wing from opening. Behind the vent wing and certain drivers will have to lean back to see it. That was the issue on my '59 Edsel at least, mine are on the front fenders. Still not the best position (now they're far away) but I like the look. On the 60's cars with normal windshields it's not really an issue but it may have become standard practice by then.
Yeah that makes sense! Thanks for the input!! Me and a few other guys were wondering Sent from my iPhone using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
