I am piecing together an early chev out of s****. I have several truck cowls and a few nice hoods and sides. when I went to mock it up the cowl was way too wide for my roadster windshield and stanchions. If I find a roadster cowl can I use my truck hoods? are the firewalls the same for roadster and truck.
Hoods should be the same. The trucks cowls are they open depot hack style or closed cab? Commercial cowls are usually much wider at the A pillars. When I bought my windshield & posts from a restorer he said there were 5 or 6 different style of post and windshields for open car roadster, tourers. Depending on year and even which half of year it was (1924-28). I took my cowl to his shop and we tried 3 different posts and 4 windshields before I found suitable match.
yea what Jimmy said. I presume you are talking 1920s? 1924, 1925 and 1926 should be interchangeable only difference being the higher bottom screen hinge on the 1924 which doesn't affect fitment . The 1927 and 1928 sit higher on the cowl and therefore have a different angle and they also have a flat cut bottom to accommodate a body swage. Other minor differences between each year include the means by which the front hood bow attached to the posts. Commercials up to about 1930 used car panels so shouldn't be any different apart from those using the commercial firewall. The commercial firewalls were either attached to car cowls or commercial closed cabs. Are you sure you haven't got a closed car cowl? thanks guys . my stanchions do have a flat cut bottom . I was hoping to use the cowl I have because the bead lines up with the 27 quarter panels I have. the w/s set up I have is too narrow on the cowl but I could add a 1/2" on each side and make it look ok. or approach a friend and ask him to sell me his open car cowl and see if the hoods work. from what jimmy says it is worth asking as my hood can be used.
