Customs Early custom or movie prop mystery solved. 1942 was an odd styling year

How many 42 Fords were produced. I`ve worked on at least 3 different ones.

  2. Now that I think about it, the stylists at Oldsmobile that worked on the 1940-1942 models came to work drunk everyday. It got progressively worse until production stopped for the war, they sobered up and designed the 46s.

The 40 Olds bumpers are the only redeemable quality of those years.

I thought I'd seen everything but I had never seen a '42 Olds until this thread. Thanks

42 Chrysler and 42 Desoto are some of the wildest designs of the 1940's, I'd love to see a '42 Chrysler business coupe with '42 DeSoto hidden headlights, it'd look right out of a comic book.

I do wonder what the designs would have looked like during the war years if there was no war. I also wonder why most of the 1942 designs seem so bizarre, maybe just because I'm not used to seeing them often.

Here's the Ford production numbers for 1942, plus colors, as presented in the book shown below.
Pretty amazing considering WW II ended in the Pacific Sept. 2, 1945. Not much lead time. If you Google 1942 Ford sedan delivery and 1942 Ford pickup you can see what they looked like.

In my opinion, the 1942 Ford was the best looking car of the '42-'48 series.
