I just picked up an early Econoline steering column for my Es*** project and I have a couple of dumb questions for you seasoned rodders.

    1. I'm trying to clean up the column. How do you remove the shifter rod from the bottom of the cup under the steering wheel? I got the bottom end of it apart but cant figure out the top. It's a 3-speed standard shifter.

    2. The column is awfully short...approx 28" from the pitman shaft to the bottom of the steering wheel. I'm hoping it will be long enough to work in my truck. Does anyone have decent pics of how they have theirs mounted, including a shot of the frame mount?

    Thanks!!

If your going to try and use the shifter your gonna have to make a new bushing for end under the wheel and they don't repro these. find a washer with same OD and hog out ID to match tube. mine had worn so bad you hit reverse every time it shifted and thats why i PO sold it. i had to do this just to get it home.

Not planning to use the shifter, I have a Lokar on the floor for that. I just want to clean up the column.
