...like Ford-A-Matic's, and, Cruise-A-Matic's, these all had 2-piece cases with a seperate bellhousing, right? By 1961, Ford was already into the early FE motors, but, what about the bellhousing bolt-patterns? Were the Y-Blocks and FE motors the same, or not?
yeah they had 2 peice bellhousings. aka FMX trannies. The FMX i have sitting in my shop has a cast iron case, and an aluminum bellhousing. i dont know bout the bolt patterns
There have been a couple of articles showing how to marry a CruiseO and FMX so it bolts to a Y Block. Here is one of them. http://www.y-blocksforever.com/html/fmxupgrade.html OTOH, a C4 kit from FlatOMatic makes for a better setup as C4 performance and service parts are readily available.
POS-O-Matics suck. They are prgrammed to start out in second gear, unless you really floor it and then after rolling out a few feet, it downshifts into first. Or you have to manually put it in first. I have one of these POS's in my modified and I hate it, that's part of the reason I'm swapping the engine and trans out. I also hate the way it slams real hard into reverse, hits as hard as my old trans-brake equipped drag race car did.
