  2. i hope you left the castle nut on the perch before you started wacking on it
your best bet is to put it in a press. it will keep constant pressure on it and then a bit of kroil or wd. let it soar for a while then if that doesnt work give it a bit more of the hot wrench with a little pressure on it. tk

MORE HEAT, and a bigger hammer and maybe some explatives.

There was a thread or two about this a couple of months ago, some of the solutions were parifin wax when heated, WD-40 or something similar to free the rust. Sometimes they come apart easy and sometimes hard, luck of the draw i guess. If the perch bolts are toast which they usually are you can drill down the center of the perch bolts and remove 75% of it and the rest will kind of relieve in on itself and lose its resistance and you can then punch it out.

Too much red heat at the perch area on the axle sides, and then hammering, sometimes swells the perch bolt shank IMO.

There are many threads on different methods.

Just a question, If you are going to split the bones later? If so, cut them now, to try to work the bones loose.

Also heat and melt some wax all around the perch and let it cool completely.

All the ones I have done seemed to be different on what did work. I was able to save some 33/4 perch bolts by splitting the bones first.

One other 1940 axle, I ended uo having to drill and torch the bolts out. Not an easy thing to do. Near the end, I only had a real thin outer shell of the perchbolt still in there, and it still was frozen stuck.

  5. I have found that an air hammer with a point tool works good combined with heat. Put the point in the small indented hole in the end of the perch and apply heat.

For the hammer approach...get a rear hub knocker type puller, 5/8 18...available for like $5 new from Model A places, old ones pretty easy to find at swaps. This is an enclosed nut with a nubbin inside so when tight it bears against the end of the pin, transferring the violence away from threads.

  7. I tried all of the above methods on my 34 axle including a press.Nothing worked so I had to drill out the perches and they still wouldn't come out.So I used a thin hacksaw blade in between the bones and the axle to cut off the perch .Lot of work for something I ended up replacing with a new axle anyway.Good luck, you'll need it.
