    Hey all and happy Sunday!

A few days ago while starting my ‘54 Customline I noticed the ignition switch was smoking. Looking into it just now, It seems that the switch is grounding out on the dash.
Should it not ground to the dash?
Does it need to be grounded better?
    Is the switch broken?

    Again, thanks in advance!

  2. The switch doesn't need to be grounded to the dash to work. It has probably worn and come apart inside and a hot terminal is touching ground causing the smoke.

  3. Remove the switch and let it hang by the wires. If it works again as normal, you have an internal ground to the case. Being a Ford you may find that there a few options for a new one (F1, Mercury, Edsel, etc).

Yep. Thanks guys. The switch works fine when dangling. It only needs to be grounded for the light bulb. A new switch has been ordered.
    Thanks for the help.
