early ford open drive line conversion questions

    Have access to some free parts off of a 1952 ford 3/4 pickup. Will any the trans or rear end parts work for a conversion to open drive line. Have a 36 rear and want to use a 5 speed. Is the steering column and box worth taking or is that only the 53-56 pickups. Thanks

    Open drive conversion NO ! For sure snag the steering box 48-52 were little different and sometimes are amuch better fit.

    I think in '52 the rear on the 3/4 ton has 6 lugs. The trans is also likely a heavy duty 4 speed where 1st is a granny gear

    That stuff won't help you convert to open driveline but the differential carrier would be good if you ever snagged an old Champ style Q.C. The original Champ style was based on that rearend and used two left hand side bells. Most used Q.C.s, having been used in race cars, have spools or solid axles making them ill suited for the street. [
