I was wondering if this came on trucks from the factory or was it an accesory item. I just bought a 35 ford cab and bed and got this rearend with the deal. It is a 35 or 36 with the bolt on wishbones and someone upgraded to hydrualic brakes. I asked my dad and some other people what they thought and they didn't exactly know. I am sure there is someone on here that could tell me. It is pretty cool how it's cast around the housing and has a cool shape to it. Thanks Sam
Not Ford, but looks like a really well made aftermarket rig...might still be a useful accessory on a lowered truck! Unfortunate addition to unsprung weight, but a neat design.
Thanks Bruce, so you don't think it was a ford item. Well thats a lot more cooler than what I thought it was, I just didn't know for sure. Would you give a guess on who made it. There is a guy that wants to buy it but I don't want to tell him its made from ford and then he will think its rare or something. Thanks Sam
I know an Old man that runs a '34 Ford truck everyday as his work truck. Yes, Its Flathead powered with a '39 box & a Banjo, Everyday driver !! It has an after market Over Load spring similar to this on it, He Loads EVERY thing & ANYTHING you can imagine in this truck ! Dont think it work worth a Shit if the truck was Lowered, But sure helps if your gonna use it as a truck.
Thanks Desoto, Yeah I don't think it would work on a lowered truck, because it rests on the bottom of the frame when it has weight on it and rests on rubber bumpers. Thanks Sam
Gentleman here has a 41 Ford pickup with the same overload spring setup. Until now, it is the only one I ever saw.
Thanks Bib overalls, so you think this thing is pretty rare? The guy that wanted to buy it didn't show up so I guess I will put it on Egay in a couple of days. Thanks Sam
The fact that I have never seen one before does not make it rare. But I would suspect very few have survived. You might ask over on the Ford Barn. There are some very knowledgeable folks there. Here are some pictures of the set up in Paul's truck.
Thanks Bib, Thats definately it for sure, the rubber bumpers and everything on it are exactly the same. Thanks Sam
Those accessory pieces from the aftermarket are generally more rare than original Ford stuff because that aftermarket market died as did the companies which produced the stuff, or they moved on to other things to stay profitable.
Finding the origin of stuff like that usually can only be done by pillaging through ancient aftermarket catalogs and trade magazines...I have lots back to long before the Kaiser war, but I don't think Ive seen any like that.
If you are talking about Paul's truck it is like new and, other than a paint job, it has never been "rehabilitated." His father or grandfather bought the truck used in 1942 and it has been in the family ever since. Paul has every license plate (tag) the truck has carried. Neat!
If someone on here wants the frame, make me an offer and you can come pick it up. The center of the crossmember was cut out but I got the center piece for it, and the right rail has a cut on it. Thanks Sam
