A customer in Texas sent us these transmission gearbox castings from a 1951 pickup truck, and asked us to build the rest of the unit. Since he's planning on putting the unit into a hot rod, he wanted it real pretty so he had the castings chrome plated. Hopefully, the car will show off the transmission a little bit.
Looks great but going to be pretty hard to see down in the belly of a hot rod! And who is going to polish it!
At least it’s real smooth.....any grease or oil should wipe off easily. The surface was pretty slippery.
Sure looks impressive however I'd be worried about the heat it'd retain when driven and hydrogen embrittlement
Given the price of chrome plating I think those cases are more expensive than a couple of my old cars..
Looks like Matt from Iron Trap just mounted a chrome ****** on the Delorean car. I'm just too cheap to get into this latest trend.
That is just flat pretty,0 I'd expect that we will see the car that it goes in in some show coverage of a major event in the next year or two. I was just thinking That is something that Blackie would have done.
I just got in a core that has reportedly been sitting in storage for over 30 years and the case was old chrome so that isn't really a new trend. They didn't do much of a polishing job and it really showed it's age. It did have a mint set of Zypher gears in it though!
