I've had this Spotlite model car book sinc I was 8 years old . The one model that tore me up was this 55-57 Chevy truck. I never could build it because in 1968 they just didn't have a 55 Chevy truck on the shelves, so I did without. Never thought about drawing it till now. It was built by Tom Bush of Cupertino, California. It makes you wonder if it would work because he didn't cut the bumpers down to make them fit, hmmm.
Well, I took it a step further and customized it little more. Still has the 58 T-bird interior and 58 Buick rear bumper. It would be easy to shape the tail light beaks and fender extensions out of foam and fiberglass. They got a 55 Chev feel to them. I think a little flare would look good at the bottom of the body and the wheel openings. French and extend the headlights. Cut out the liscence mount and fill in with other bumper sections, weld seams. Use some dummy spots for grille bullets, bullet out the bumpers and wheels too. I used some Cadillac wires .Chop it. Bag it. I bet this will be at Paso Robles soon!
Just something to think about. Them kids had good ideas a long time ago, I just stole this one, if you are still out there Tom, I hope you don't mind!
Also a constuction shot of the hood.
Worked on this one till 2a.m. , I hope it was worth it.
    See ya later!:D

No drawings for me this week but here is an old project I started working on again. Its originally an AMT/ERTL 1972 chevy truck model car.
    I went from this:

    to this:

    mods include:
chopped roof (to build me a roadster:D )
front has been hacked off, now its got a '53 corvette roadster front,
    engine cutout on hood,
    shaved handles, smoother body
i wasn't sure what to do with the bed so i glued in
some balsa wood strips, slapped on the putty and "sealed" it

now it has that "heavysled" look......

    next stage: sanding & paintjob
hopefully be done in the next few weeks...
will post the final build to share....

    Robin.

One day has gone by and I am still just diggin' on that piece.

    Damn!

    I love the hidden "HELP".

That just sells the whole thing to me.

    Love it.

Wish I could afford to buy it from you.

    I did paint those.
Oil on canvas they are about 20x30 ish.
I make prints of them at about bit smaller at about 16x20...ish.
    Thanks for the kind words.

    Neato! What medium are those?

  12. I used colored pencils and pen on a sketch pad. Then I scanned them into Photoshop and messed around.

Hate to hijack, but i dont know where else to ask and i dont think it deserves its own thread.....

I have been wrestling this in my brain....I have been doing this picture modification thing for a little while (only with my own shots), and while some of them take very little time (think quick sketch), others take several days and a lot of frustration to get to where i am happy with them. My girlfriend is an artist (mostly mixed media, acrylics, and charcoal) and i know quite a few artists and pinstripers so i know how much work goes into that stuff so it makes it hard for me to call what i do art, but i enjoy it and still think it is worth doing because i enjoy looking at what i have done.

What do you guys think about art and photography and the computer as canvas? Should i call it art? should i relegate it to my harddrive and the walls in my house when i am finished or put it up for people to see? dont sugarcoat it, just give me your honest opinion. thanks in advance

    Rob

probably should correspond by PM to keep this an art thread....

  26. rob, I'm not sure i really understand what it is you're talking about, but I know a lot of guys start with a photo and use illustrator/painter/photoshop to get where they're going. I think it's cool. Sometimes i post a pencil sketch that takes me 10 minutes, i'm not about to tell a guy that's spent 5 hours on a digital work that mine is art and his isn't. I'd say post it!

Thanks for the reply nate.. I guess my problem is, you guys can make art. It can come completely out of your head. I can't do that. I rely on technology to create....

  28. na, that's like saying I rely on my pencil to create my art.

    Cab relies on his spraypaint.

Post your most artsy thing you've done, I want to see :D

  29. I look forward to all the cool art every week. The work by everyone is awesome!
