I can't answer for Jigger, but if you like to draw of retouch photos, you will never touch your mouse again once you pick up a tablet. Just make sure you get a Wacom tablet. Everyone I know that has tried another brand has thrown theirs away within a couple months. This Wacom Intuos has been on my desk at work for 7.5 years, and I haven't seen my mouse in years!

The value is in the fact that they are pressure-sensitive, so the harder you press, the fatter or darker (or both) your marks become... just like using traditional drawing media.

I consider my Mac a nice peripheral for my Wacom tablet!

  3. Yep. I haven't used a mouse since like '97. Wacom all the way.

  4. I can't believe all the positive feedback.I hope it's as tongue-in-cheek as the drawing was ment to be. I literally drew this in less than 3 minutes (colored it in about 10) in hopes of getting jeered but, hey, I'll take the props too.

    Thanks to all!!!

Wacom all the way. (For now) Once you use one you will be hooked.
My wife suprised me with one several years back (17") and last year I bought an Inuos II, about 10". Next step is a device the animation industry has embraced called the Cintiq, also by Wacom (Inous). It is a 21" screne you draw on. It has amazing contols and is completely integrated with Adobe CS2 and newer. You would be blown away by this thing. Only problem is ponying up $2,200.00 for one. I need to sell some prints...

  5. Yep! 'Bout says it all.

The design agency I'm at has us working on both mac and PCs and I go from one to the other, the Mac has a wacom and the PC one has a "brick" but I manage???....
For personal use though I am looking into the Cintiq21 UXNR it retails for around $2600 it is a 21" interactive screen...cool as hell!

  7. That's more than I paid for my car. They look like fun though. All the funky tools wouldn't make me a better illustrator though, I need a lot of practice.

Every one of my drawings start off in pencil, then I ink them and scan them into photoshop.
I am sure there is a ton of guys on here who "draw" the traditional way.

I do. Actually, both. Sometimes it's pen and marker, pen and photoshop, or illustrator and photoshop. Our company has two Cintiqs, can't wait till I get to use one! Alot of you guys have great hand drawn line work though!

These are pictures that I took while on a road trip to Death Valley. The pictures of the cars were from Scotty's Castle

I finallly scanned these after about 17 years.

Thanks for the compliments everyone, I really appreciate it. You guys are so much kinder than the other 3D forums I go to :D.

-Jigger, thanks for advice once again. I'll get it down eventually. And dude, kid drawings is where it's at. I used to do a bunch of drawings like that because I love the style of it. I'm into anime and they use that style alot. I also like your regular illustrations too.

-Jayne, I currently use Maya 2008 and Photoshop to finish up a few details.

-Pacheco, this one was a personal project that I've been working off and on for about a year. But I could knock one out in a week start to finish if I was persistent with it. And lucky you, the Cintiq21 UXNR. I creamed my pants when I got to use one at a Wacom booth.

-Flyingpolock, the feeling mutual my man. your style reminds me of an automotive version of Feng Zhu. Good looking out on the website too. I'll most definitely check it out.

-Buick 59, that's a good question. I actually haven't worked with a client yet. I'm sort of fresh out of school. I'll take any reasonable price I guess. What's more valuable to me is the work experience to build my resume and happy clients so they give me a good rap when possible employers call them.

I also had a question about posting other people's work. Is this a cardinal sin? through the years I encountered some art I think most of you would enjoy.

  25. having seen them in the flesh (or is that canvas!) I can indeed report they are way, way awsome

  27. SanDeagoJoe, heh,...not only does he post snap shots, He can't even afford a camera
that takes colored pictures! Hey, Joe, get with the 20th, oops, 21st centery, man!

Those are great shots! (artisticly speaking)

49Ratfink,....always use pencils. grease monkey have grease imbedded in their skin, I have graphite and colored , uh, stuff. I use color pencils when possible for commission
pieces and markers for others. I think, tho, I've saved lots of money and actually finished more pieces using digital for color. Acrylic paint is in the near future
as i continually challenge myself to grow in medium scope.
    Thanks for asking.

    SanDeagoJoe, really, beautiful work sir.

  29. I'd say you'd better ask permission of the original artists first or at least give them credit when you post stuff that isn't yours.

And thankx to people commenting my stuff. I guess reposting art will always reach a new audience that sees it for the first time.... better get my butt in gear and create something new now... d*mn forum here keeps eating up all my time...

Well, apparently I still haven't found the "magic formula" for whatever it is this board wants to show attached / linked images. And direct links don't seem to work either.

I've tried both the Quick & Advanced reply modes using the "Attach Image" utility and adding in the url and at first an image will attach & show and then it's gone. The coding is still in the reply (in Editing mode) but nothing in the post.

Since many of you have figured it out, mind giving me a little insight into what the secret handshake is? Is there some sort of size limit (either byte size or pixel size)? Is there some sort of resolution max I'm violating? I've tried attaching linked images for 1/2 hour with no luck and now I'm just pissed at the board. I've looked through the FAQ but there really isn't anything in there about either multiple attachments or size restrictions (outside of the limits placed on the images in an album). Thoughts?
