Technical Early Hydramatic question

Forgive me if this is in the wrong place.
I am trying to sort the bad oil leaks from my 49 Olds Hydramatic. It is out of the car.
How does the Torus come off? the manual says wiggle it back and forth then give a sharp tug, dont lever it or it will damage the pump.
The Torus moves about 1/8" then wont come any further.
So, thought Id ask first.

Torus cover is bolted to flywheel with multiple bolts however since your transmission is removed I gather than procedure would be similar to 1954 Chevy PU Hydramatic servicing procedure. I'm sure others familiar with this will chime in with better advice

The torus cover is the bit that wont budge from the transmission. Ive got a gasket/seal kit from Fusicks, other than spewing oil out from the bellhousing the trans worked ok before removal so fingers crossed.

There is a sealant ring in the pump that has probably worn a groove in the cover.
You will probably have to give it a good jerk to get off the pump.
The sealant ring may break and if the groove in the cover is really bad, the hub in the cover will have to be replaced or replace the whole torus cover with a good one.
