    Hi,
i just mounted 16x5 Lincoln wheels on the rear end of my '33.Now my '40 hubcaps wont fit
anymore .they hit the axle before they slip on.....
Had 16x4 Ford rims before with these caps.

Are there any 40-48 Ford or Merc hubcaps that are "deeper" that my 40s???
I don't want to cut or grind on my axles

    It's about 1/2 inch....

    Any Ideas?

I have Lincoln 16" x 5"s on my rear and I regularly trade off my '40 DeLuxe Caps with some '48 Mercs that are on now.........also have run '47-48 Ford caps..........there's lots that ought to fit.....

The Merc caps seem to have a lot of "crown"
    The look good!
I have been told they are Lincoln, but they have no "Slots" (they are solid), so
    maybe they are something different.
They have clips to hold the hubcaps.

I had this problem on one side & not the other. A comparison of the two hubcaps showed that over the years, the retaining portion of the hubcap had been bent inward due to taking them off & pounding them back on. I carefully straightened them and they fit - it's snug, but they fit.

These are '40 Standard caps with the V8 in them, BTW.

I think your problem is that you do not have Lincoln wheels in 16 x 5......must be from something else?......the hub caps attach in the center on the four *inside nubs*....no clips on early Ford wheels........

Check on those wheels.....mine have slots.......

Dunno - but they're not early Lincoln.

If you look closely ... you can see the 4 little nubs ... inside the rims that holds the hubcap in place ... on the type hubcap you want to use.

Micheal i have 16x5 rims on my 39 & they took some hunting down as they were only fitted to 41-42 Lincoln Mercury, i'm not using caps but it looks like they would clear the axle also my rims have nubs & not spring clips to hold the cap on.

As mentioned, I'm running same rims as Limey - got caps on it. They're snug against the castlenut, but they went on. one had a bent in lip & I had to straighten it to get it to go on, but they're on...

  13. 1953 Ford Pick up's also had 16 x 5 Rims, and can be indentified by a small hole drilled in the web near a lug nut hole.

I have a bunch of 16x4 and 16x4,5 Ford rims like in the pic.
I thought maybe lincolns are a bit different. They have no slots where the rim joins the center.
So i guess i have to take off my front hubcaps , too.

Are different style 16" lincoln wheels? Pics anybody?

Are the '48 Merc hubcaps availible as repros?Who carries them?

  16. The big center hole tells me you may have Jeep wheels. Not 100% sure.

I have a similar problem. Bought some lincoln hubcaps that won't fit my forty wheels. They are 46 lincoln. They will almost snap in but I think lincoln wheels have retaining clips.
