From about 1995 to 2001 or 2002 messed with early OLDS engines. Not to keep them stock but to find out what other parts could be used in them. Had a web site that a post below covers somewhat. At the end I hurt my back and could not lift a crank or head with out being messed up a week or 2. So I sold everything to TOM JOYCE which I see has posts on this site. Now I go to shows and enjoy RODS with early or different engines. How did the junk about going to door with a gun get started? Never had or will have one. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showpost.php?p=619556&postcount=25 Last engine I was working on was left at LAM ENGINES in Racine WI. Storage charges must have used it up by now? It was a 58 371 with a offset ground 394 crank with chevy H rods with 327 pistons. Pic of first engine, a 324 with roller cam, lifters, and rockers. Local Hot Rod got this one.
Sir, it sounds like you have alot of knowledge and info many of us would find very usefull on the main board. I am interested in those transmission adaptors, any more info on those?
Good to see early Olds stuff. I'm building a '40 Ford with a '56 324 bored to 4",#10 heads,3-2's and a Schneider cam.
The man who built them p***ed away. The one I had went to Tom Joyce who sold it to some one else? Case was cut back to front pump area. Pump was cut back on edge so a thick plate could be bolted to it. Early cast iron hydro bell was bolted to plate. Crank had a bushing to take nose of convertor. Heavy thick hydro flywheel had thick posts welded in, to bolt convertor to. Convertor sat about a good inch away from flywheel. That was about it. Same man also took mopar intakes and added with weld metal to surfaces and then took some back off so it would mate with early olds heads. What mopar engine? What years OLDS could use these? Everything went to Tom Joyce, dont even have notes left. Have a few pictures. Last trans project I was working on was a 4L60E to Early Olds. The bellhousing on these un bolted and a bell used on a Corvette with trans in the rear was short and small. Had just started to look at a plate to go from it to early olds. Had empty case 4L60E, (except front pump), VETTE bell and plate to work with, but again all went to TOM.
You can see a pretty ****py pic in my other avitar. Search for "ratrod40" I may be able to post some better pic's if I ever get around to fixing the camera/computer issues. Trouble is...I like to work on engines but hate to work on computers and cameras!
