I pened my 303 Olds dragster motor this morning to find this , This motor was put together in 1958 and ran in a B/D, I was told that this was Howard Cam roller, but can not confirm. A machined bevel plate is bolted in the lifter galley, the roller lifters ride against the plate, thus eliminating the ability for the roller to turn. In the bore......anybody seen anything like this?
I had one of those back in 1958 but I traded it from the guy down the street and never knew what brand it was. The plate that kept the rollers in line was a little rough and a long way from precision. I never ran it so don't know how well it worked.
Used an aluminum plate to block the rollerlifters in my GMC from turning. Had to file notches with a 1/2” round file to miss the push rods. I finally found a set of Crowers with tie bars but don’t like them as much because the tie bars are on the outside and space is tight.
I’ve got that same setup in my stash of early Olds parts. Seems like a pretty rudimentary way to guide lifters. The whole kit is packed in a nice wooden box. My 324 Olds got a new Ross Racing cam and kit, since I’m hoping to drive my roadster a lot I didn’t want to rely on the old used parts. Sent from my iPad using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
