I was digging through my swapmeet stuff, while looking for a cad bellhousings for a guy on the hamb, I ran across a Olds I think anyway. Its only number is JC 25...anyone here in the know? It looks like a later three/four speed bolt pattern on the thing. Also will a early olds flywheel fit a early cad? I looked at the greatest olds post ever and I know the trannies will interchange but flywheels? I also included a pic of a olds front cover, its aluminum can anyone ID it. Thanks in advance.

Probably the most sought after adapter for early Olds V8s. As to the flywheels, any 1949-56 Oldsmobile standard shift flywheel will work on 1949-54 Cadillacs for sure. However, the corresponding starter gear must be used; Olds changed the number of ring gear teeth in (I think) 1954. All of my old speed equipment catalogs list one flywheel part number for '49-'53 and another for '54-'56. Cadillac changed thr rear of the engine block in '55 and went to a fully detatchable bell housing, and I'm not sure what flywheels work on the '55-'62 Caddy engines.

The olds are I think, 147 teeth. I got another mystery one, Im sure its a GM, the pressure plate holes are evenly spaced. Here is a pic. Its great being on a board with so much combined knowledge. Its the one in the lower left.

It's so scuzzy that it's hard to tell, but it resembles a '55-'60 Pontiac flywheel. If it's got 176 teeth, it probably is.

So, if you have a '59 Olds 394 and this JC 25 adapter, you still need the clutch and flywheel out of an early Olds, in addition to a 55 or later GM manual transmission, huh?

Earlier Olds 6 cylinder flywheel will also fit the 49-53 Olds. I imagine that there are differences but the 6 cylinder flywheel will work. I successfully used one from a '46 on a '53 Rocket.

  9. Do you want to sell that adapter? PM me if you do.
