Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Greg Stokes, Nov 27, 2008.

  1. Wondered what you guys had in the way of early SB Chev engines - feel free to post your pics - 265, 283, 327 etc

Here is my '57 283 with fuellie heads and a twin four intake that I may fit, I would like to try and build a period engine with cast ex manifolds etc

Here's the 283 in my 55. It's a 1960 block and the engine was originally built about 1969. It was bored .080 over, 12 1/2:1 compression, 2.02 heads 375 Hp 327 fuelly cam, Tarantula intake, 780 Holly, and Cal Custom valve covers & air cleaner that have been on this engine since they were new. The engine is still basically the same today, except it's bored to 301 now. I also cut the compression to 11:1. Should have left it at 12 1/2:1.:D It's turned a best of 9.20 at the strip:D:D:D........in the 1/8 mile.:eek::eek:

    In '65 I ran a 301 with stock slugs, cast iron intake/exhaust with a 2 bbl. and a Duntov 30/30 cam.

I enuff $$$ for the rebuild and cam but not for the other stuff... $1.35 per hour didn't go that far...

I've got a '64 283 Powerpak with a little special head work, lumpy cam, Weiand intake and Eldebrock 600. It's been in my '34 for 21 years and never missed a lick.

I have a '56 265 bored to 283, ported power pak heads, a really old solid lifter Engle cam, popups probably 11.5/1s, a DuCoil distributor and a 3x2 setup with 2gcs. This motor was in a deceased friends T bucket back around '60-'62, then in mid 60s was in an altered roadster that Doc Eiland sold my friend with I beleive Enderle mechanical injectors ( Graham Pharis(sp?) has the frame & running gear from the altered roadster with a flathead in it, had it @ the Hill Country drags a few years ago).
The engine was in my T roadster when I bought it from my deceased friends widow, cooling p***ages were full of dirt dauber nests. I have it torn down to cleanup & rebuild.
