I like gold Mark, but I already have a gold one.... It was supposed to go into my roadster after a scuff-n-shoot color change, then I caught Olds Rocket fever.
Dang, I already have an orange one. Damned small block Chevys are everywhere. Can’t swing a dead cat without hitting one. Lol. (This one came out of the roadster)
I remember looking at a one owner 57 210 for sale in the late 70s with a yellow small block , owner said It came that way . was a 2bbl 265 . At that time I thought all V8 57s were 283s.
On the 57 283 I mentioned having I'll be going old snap on red.....just like the 350 in my 53 Bel Air lol
I thought there was a red one in there somewhere. Growing up, the kid down the street had a ‘56 Chevy with a red engine. Didn’t look like he ever cleaned it, much less painted it. He rebuilt it and painted it red again. I remember because I helped him scrub the red paint off the garage floor when his dad got pissed. Lesson learned.
In 1957, if you bought a 2 bbl V8 with a standard transmission, you got a 265; 2 bbl V8 Powerglide cars got a 283. And, yes, '57 265s were a chartreuse color, probably to set them apart on the ***embly line.
Yikes, chartreuse? I’d find it really hard to restore a ‘57 Chevy and have to paint the engine like that. And I thought my T-Bird’s yellow valve covers were weird.
This abortion had a 57 283 in it with a cast iron glide, stuck so I couldn't even separate the engine from the trans, another lucky HAMB member ended up with it. I wonder if they ever did anything with it ? EDIT : it also had a 57 rear end
Pulled down a '57 283 that mice killed and was surprised that it had no notch flat top pistons. Bet that would be interesting if someone put a performance cam in it without knowing.
By '57, I think that the 2 bbl engine didn't have reliefs, but the 4 bbl engine did. At least, the '57 power pack engine I took apart did.
That ch***is was something to behold, picked it up in Niagara Falls, it really looked like it was on the road driving at some point, they should've sent it over in a barrel. It did have a real Hurst mount up front, mustang box, econoline axle, the aforementioned 57 chevy stuff.
