It's probably been answered 100 times, but I can't find it. On a modern hotrod, what purpose would the "R" solenoid terminal serve?? Thanks in advance......
It is used to bypass the ignition ballast resistor while starting. If the "modern hotrod" has electronic ignition, don't connect it to anything. If it has points, then connect it to the positive side of the ignition coil.
Its purpose is to supply full battery voltage to the coil while starting, once the solenoid releases, the coil runs off the resistor wire.
I love those old drawings. No CAD, no fancy animation, just some dude with piece of paper and pencil and here we are still learning from it however many years later. -Abone.
True there and I have a feeling that it wasn't a very old drawing at 6:20 PM yesterday when it was posted if the ink was even dry.
It's cool no matter what the age. And, I bet Squirrel can stand it on the back bumper using only the items in that drawing. -Abone.
The only detail they left off of the illustration are the terminal/post designations on the ignition switch.
True. Battery to B, ignition to R (run) and starter to S. I don't have a good photo editing program or I'd add them. EDIT: Thanks @squirrel ! Yes, it's I (Ignition), not R.
or you could use Paint, which is a bad photo editing program, but it works, and is free if you paid for Windoze. (I assumed the switch would have I for Ignition)
