I am now carless in the DC area of maryland. Is there a decent scene out here as I look to build my suede 29 A or 51 Vicky, or whatever I find out here. Bethesda seems to be full of rice rides with coffee cans hanging off the back. It makes me regret leaving my 55 Poncho Hearse and 54 Caddy back in San Diego( but they will be out here eventually). Anyway, any satin rides out here or are they all rice, muscle, or wallet rods?
I duuno about Muhr-lin, but over in Tysons Corner they used to get together every Fri and Sat nite off of Gallows road. You'd see Hot Rods, muscle, resto's and about everything else too. I'm sure that something still goes on but don't know where as I don't live there anymore.
Every sunday morning. The donut shop at Rt 29 and 198 in Burtonsville Md. 8 am to about 11 Lots of cars and good people that love them. I don't know about any "scene". Nobody is in costume. Just cars that run the gamut. Hot rods, customs, muscle cars etc. Several old time primered hot rods to enjoy but you'll see some high buck stuff too. We don't discriminate. Come on out and have a look see. There are a lot of the "scenester" shows within a couple of hours drive. You'll read about them here on the HAMB as they come up.
"Scene" not the word I was looking for, just cats that drive what they build and dont need to wear a patch on their backs. You know the people that read OlSkool and think it should be more like Kustoms Illustrated and Wizzz. I will definitely check out that show. Thanks
DC doesn't hold a candle to SoCal. Having said that, check out this website: www.capitalcruisin.com Althought it's quite a hike from the MD side of the beltway, the Sat night cruise at the Mannassas, VA Burger King is one of the biggest in the region. I go ~once a month. Some other upcoming events that I recommend and aren't too far away: 10 Sep: Hot Rod Hoedown in Wilmington, DE 24 Sep: mobtown greaseball in Baltimore, www.karbkings.com ??Nov: Jalopyrama in Baltimore Hope to see you there.
I don't live around there at all, but... I was just thinking about how the best way to gather cars and car guys together without attracting attention from idiots, ricers, or cops, is to gather real early in the morning. Then afterward you can get on with your day and do the other things, like wrenching on your car. Seems a good idea to me. Annoying morons almost never get out of bed early.
We are way too cool to make the scene....Tommy mentioned what a couple of us call Church and a dognut (I've only been twice) it's not really a scene, but a nice way to spend the morning...mostly old fat guys like me....but hey out here in this scene we have the coolest rides. I've been to LA Roadsters...and ya'll do it differently out there ( a very cool scene). Gary55 mentioned some good ones to check out although not in your neighborhood. The closest, jalopyrama is in Glen Burnie Md. To get your fill of little books and 'culture' style mags visit Uncle Dougs "All Good Stuff Automotive" on Solley Road in Pasadena Md. He's cool, and I know a lotta guys come down from Baltimore and Pa to buys stuff from him....he may have some ideas. And you can get a snowball, how cool is that? Good luck
