Rustoleum has been mentioned a few times in this thread, I don't like it for two reasons. First, it takes forever to dry completely. You have to add a hardener to get it to dry in a couple of days. Second, I used it on the frame of one of my trucks and it started peeling off in a couple of years. I store my vehicles during the winter so they really don't see hard environments.

I used POR-15 and it seemed like a very good product but expensive and you have to buy their other products to make paint adhere to it, more money.

On my current project I am using an epoxy mastic, the type of paint they use to paint water towers and bridges. It's fairly cheap but you have to buy a gallon of paint and a gallon of hardener, it cost $100 for both. POR-15 runs about $45 for a quart the last time I checked. The thing I like about the epoxy is it's a two part system and you mix what you need, the rest doesn't harden until you mix it together. Also, the two parts are about the consistency of peanut butter. I mix them together and thin with cheap lacquer thinner for $20 and get a total of three gallons for less than $125.

One note, I just started using this product, about six months ago, so I haven't had a chance to see how it lasts but so far it dries hard and is very resistant to scratching. Like all the other encapsulators it is UV sensitive and will fade if exposed to the sun, it has to be over coated if the part is exposed to the sun. You don't need any added materials to make paint stick to it. After 30 days it has to scuffed with a scuff pad before applying paint pretty much like any epoxy primer.

Eastwood's Rust Encap says it can be used "on or under body filler".
Does anyone have any experience putting body filler over rust Encap?
    Thanks
