I am gathering parts and planning the build of my 1938 Ford cabover. I want to keep it all Ford if possible. Ford frame, 302, C6, and Dana 60. I was looking at a 1968-1974 Ford Econoline 300 motor home. It is a 1-ton dually with the drivetrain I like.

Anyone use something like this? My biggest concern is the front track width. I do not want to widen the front fenders, I do not want the tires at the very edge of the front fenders. I do want the track the same as original. Any advice is appreciated.

My COE uses a GM 1-ton front end. The fenders are not widened. I just run the smallest 16" truck tire made. I did have to reshape the front of the fender opening a little to make it look better. I have plenty of fender clearance, even when fully turned.

The GM 1-ton front end? Does than men you clipped the frame or just used the GM suspension on the stock Ford frame?

Here is the 1971 Ford Econoline 300 motor home I am thinking about using. Anyone know the track width of this donor vehicle?

Well after looking at what appears to be the frame is actually a unibody van. The rails are welded to the floor. The 1971 econoline is no longer an option for me.

Listening to what Greg used, I decided to check out some Chevy ch***is's. I am tossed between a 1981 c10 with a 12-bolt posi and 2.73 gears, dual tanks, and tilt steering. Or a 1987 Chevy suburban c20 with a big Dana and 3.73 open rear, rear mounted tank and no steering column.
