i have a '61 econoline with a 144 6. original generator. the generator is going out and i'd like to add an alternator. i hav no schematics or wiring diagram. does anyon have any idea how to go about adding a gm one wire style alternator that has a built in regulator? I currently have 3 wires leaving the generator and someone said just hook the one lead from the new alternator to all three wires. that doesn't sound right as i'll be removing/byp***ing the old voltage regulator.
any help would be appreciated. thanks

A "one wire" is just that - it only requires one wire. Just hook a wire from the stud on the alternator to the battery. The wire should be at least a 10 gauge wire. Tape off the old wires from your regulator.
