    Choptop-
Looks like steering needs to be heavily modified, mainly, but the 3-speed linkages will cause problems too, as well as anything else under the doghouse, it's a fairly crazy amount of work

Lotta Econo-freaks in this thread. One of you must know what kind of back space these trucks need for wheels. I've always liked them and will have one someday. I want to run 15x6 on the front and 15 or 16x8 on the back.

Mine had 14x6 fronts & 14x8 rears. The Summit part numbers are CRR-61614 for the fronts and CRR-61814 for the rears. If you call Summit with the part numbers they will tell you the amount of backspacing on the wheels. The tires were Firestone red line F70-14 fronts and D70-14 rears.

With part numbers I just looked them up. :D

    14x6 w/ 3.375" backspacing
    14x8 w/ 4.25" backspacing

  7. WE ended up selling this one to a cat in England - any of you UK guys seen it?

I friend took an aftermarket tubular dropped axle for a Model A and sectioned it to fit the Econo. It worked, but then he had all sorts of problems with steering, shock mounting, etc. Huge pain.

I got my dropped axle from MAS. You can find them in most of the street rodder type magazines. Its a dam fine axle. I had a 5 inch drop made, and an inch off each side. With that amound of static drop you need to move the steering arm and you will have only 4 inches of travel until you hit the radiator, oilpan with the 3 spd shifting linkages. Check out my pics on My ride is me website in my signature.

We are getting real close to completion on our shoptruck. Heres a few pics of the interior and the bed. The bed looks pretty blingy, but it provides good protection for the outer body when oxyacetylene tanks start rolling around back there.

I have a moral dilemma on mine. It's a 1962 that I bought from the original owner. The cab is near perfect but the bed is rusty. It's got cool old lettering on the side from it's drag race days but most of that is obviously on the bed. Today, I was talking to him and tells me to come out to his farm. I get out there and he has a a trailer that he forgot about. It's made from a 1962 Econoline in exactly the same color and it is in nearly perfect condition. I can use this to make the body on mine almost perfect...but it requires some cutting and welding obviously since it's a unibody design. I also don't want to give up the old lettering....BUT because the trailer is exactly the same color and it has sat outside in the same place for the same period of time, it is faded exactly like the rest of the truck. Would it be "wrong" to swap the beds and reletter the truck in vintage style over the same faded paint?

  14. My old one. I think a total of 4 stripers/painters have it owned, as of now. ???

Sooner or later, I will get another one...Ford Dodge, Chevy...van or truck...whatever. I think they're all pretty cool in their ugliness. ;)

I saw it at the Rt 42 drags a couple of weekends ago. It now has a lime green flake roof.

    Chaz, that interior ROCKS.

  17. Yeh, the new owner (I forget his name?) showed me some pics of the roof and pin up girls it had on it. Pretty nice work. It just keeps evolving!

Well, I finally made it back home to go get mine out of a dirt grave on my grandpas farm. It is at the body shop in my home town awaiting the time for it to be towed back to Phoenix. I found out that it sat in the same spot for 22 years. My grandpa bought it from a hospitial at an auction for $435. It served some farm duties for a while then my dad used it for a shop truck when I was about 5 years old right before it got parked in 1986. One of my earliest child hood memories was riding around in this truck. Here is what I have to start with.

Lets hope it is that easy. It is in real good shape. Better shape than I had anticipated. There is some rust, but nothing that can't be fixed. The undercarriage is in real good shape, which was a relief. I wish I would have had some more time down there when I picked it up. If I had, I could have tried to get it started again. But all I had time for was a little cleaning out of the dirt then I had to leave town.

Looks like a solid platform, lucky you!

Do e-100's look cool lowered? Yes.

But is it a major undertaking? Yes.

Here's my keeper, after 3 other window vans, and 1 other panel I found this one. I don't know why it's spot painted this way because there is no rust where they painted it. Been hopped up a little bit, and runs real nice. Should be painted flat red or copper(can't decide) this week, then the fun part for me with lettering and striping.

Decided to get my pickup out last night for a cruise inn--don't use it much, so I thru the chopper in the back and had a blast cruising the old truck.38 years of hauling cycles with this thing.

Yeah, so does Mac's, but Mac's has a more extensive inventory for Econolines and generally has better prices.

I looked at both and all i saw rubber for fixed windows, when i called Mac's they said that they didn't have any yet but were going to adres it in their net catalog. so maby for now i'm outa luck, any other suggestions?

  29. are these cam lock windows?
Napa has a pretty good selection of weatherstripping/window gaskets.
I bought it by the foot to refinish my Brothers pick-up topper.
That will keep the wind out until you can find something better...if you still need to.

I'm trying to finish mine and need a emergency brake handle. Anybody got one they can sell? I posted a want ad in the classified with no response. Thought I'd try this thread where all the econoline freaks check in from time to time. ....
