I didn't know you had pop outs. No one makes that rubber. There was a big discussion about it on the OldEconolines Yahoo group a few months ago. Someone may have posted some good alternatives, so you might benefit from digging through those archives.

Get an old Cal Custom chrome handle and stick it on there, thats what I did. It looks cooler and it will mystify most people....................they dont expect the e-brake handle to be located there. You can tell them its for the ejection seat or parachute. ;) :D :D

    Hi Everyone,
This Econoline thread brings back the "good old days".. In the USAF, back in 1966-67 @ Travis AFB, CA, we had 2 of them in our shop (LOX Storage). They were very interesting to drive, as they were heavy up front and unusual to drive with the front wheels, under you. Much like a VW van. When we had to carry 3 passengers, one had to sit on the engine cover. I photographed this old Econoline about 18 months ago, outside Home Depot at Roswell, NM. Owner is unknown...was probably a customer. May have been a former AF truck too, as Roswell had Walker AFB open back in the 1960s.. This one has some neat pipes... Have a great day!....duane

I gotta clean this all up and air up the tires but I think it will run. It's got a matching trailer made from an identical econoline in 1965. I'm going to sell it of course. The V8 was added in 1965 and the radiused wheelwells and slicks came later.

  9. So, must be it's pretty common for them to rust out where the bed meets the bedside?
For a second there, I thought I was looking at the Pickup in my garage.

sheesh! ANOTHER one?!? I can't keep up! There's also Econosrus and Howsbaileydoing both good Econo groups on Yahoo, but seem to have the same members and cover the same topics (but at different times) as the Oldeconolines group.

Here's one I had in the mid 70's. I bought it as a wreck for $90.00 and my uncle and I put it together with junk yard parts. The passenger side door across the front to the hinges of the drivers door were from another van. It only had 23K on it when I bought it and it had the 240 C.I. 6 cyl., a great engine. The grill was out being chromed at the time. It had real chrome reverse rims. Does anybody make those anymore? That's my sister-in-law sitting on my shoulders. She was around 8 then. She's 42 now. Don't want to think about how old that makes me. My uncle found the color in a paint chip book. It's an avocodo green with a gold metalflake. Looked great when it was finished. This one was a '67. econo1.jpg

that's cool! I found an 8mm film reel of my parents moving into the house I grew up in... and they were unloading a U-Haul 60s Econoline! My wife's parents practically lived out of a window Econoline before they had kids.

Had one in the mid 70's, I installed a 302/C4 and a nice interior. Worked part time at Colton Auto Trim doing van interiors, windows, sound systems, etc.:)

get one of those new old Mustang units from Vintage Air (?). I've seen similar units hooked up before. I guess your challenge will be to find a way to hook it up to the 170. Might be easier if you do the 200 swap since those blocks were used a lot longer.

Yes, I need to work in a more drivable drivetrain. I have another 283 that would be fine. But somthing about a reved up little 200 that tickles my fancy. either way I want a four gear automatic for this pig.

does anyone know if there is a bracket for the 240 for an ac compressor or would this be one of the many fabrication projects that this project will no doubt have?

In 38 years of driving my econoline I have had so many different engines, should have had zippers one the engine compartment. The best combo I had was a 300 6 with a C/4 and clifford headers and 350 gears. If you stay with a 6 you will never have cooling problems. It too a lot of extra to make the 302 C/6 combo I run now cool.
