i'm looking to upgrade the front suspension on my 47 Chevy coupe and seeing as i'm looking at about $400 (not counting rebuilt shocks) to rebuild it like new i figure i may as well upgrade. have'nt got a bunch (or ANY right now) of money but i'm thinking of maybe just buying an aftermarket crossmember and using some refurbished stock component on that. i would'nt use tubular cross members on this one if you gave em to me and i'm planning on baggin it. i already have the parts to do that...

so. any ideas. whos the best? whos the cheapest? what should i do????

  2. I like using the heidts econo, buy or make the bottom tubular a arm to hold the bag. try ebay since you will have to update the master cylinder.

you want economy... then go to a junkyard and cut the front out of a rear damaged car and graft it to your frame. my dad did a 33 plymouth this way and it wasn't that pretty but the fenders hid everything.

the stock mustang cross member is almost a drop in for your chevy...i think just a 1/4 of an inch on each side has too be ground on your top hat there was a whole car in the cl***ifieds for 500 or a set of spindles for 50

For about $400 you can get a bolt-on disc brake conversion kit for your stock front suspension from ECI, then you can bag it or cut some coils to drop it a bit.

Probably the easiest and cheapest way to go.

I did a lot of shopping around for good pricing when I bought the MII for my '51, I ended up at Tim's Hot Rods in Washington state, he has a great rod shop, knows his ****, and had the best pricing. PM me if you want his number.

Man, that's funny - When I glanced at the ***le of this thread, I could swear it said "Economic ****S????" Needless to say, I clicked on it before I got a chance to read it fully... sorry to hijack, we now return you to your regularly scheduled program.

  15. Friend Roger Cope has put 5 of the Jim Wiemer Garage Mustang II kits in customer's rods this year and has several more on order. He, and the customers, are very satisfied.

Denise - some day I hope to meet you and even sample your legendary cookies ... which is why I'm going to defer to Squajaqada on this one. I'd prefer you to remember me as the one who didn't tell you what that means.

too bad EVERYTHING else in the front end is COMPLETELY worn out. i'm not so worried about the disc brakes, it's the actual suspension i'm worried about on this car.

I am always amused that it is perfectly acceptable to put a Mustang II front suspension in your car, but isn't it the same as the Pinto? Now who would brag about a Pinto front suspension in their prized rod?
