With roots here in the Central Valley an absolute "GENTLEMAN" and "LEGEND" God Bless ISKY.
I asked what his secret was to staying so youthful and he told me " 6oz gl*** of red wine everyday at dinner time"

I'm gonna regret missing the chance to meet this guy, but 104 years old and still grinding cams almost right to the end, that alone is legendary. I like the story of him shaking off a mugger attack and going back to work that same afternoon, and I think that was only last year, at 103. This guy's harder than the metal he grinds his cams from.

One of those guys who reached legendary status for me. He came to town on a number of trips to visit a friend who owned a shop here for many decades. He also came once to speak at the automotive cl*** at our local community college and I was excited to meet him, and have him ask me if he could si in my old Austin g***er. I was prepared with a gold Sharpie pen, and asked Ed to sign my dash. He was reluctant, as he was too modest to realize how much it meant to me personally to have him do it. I'll look at his signature and message on the dash much differently from now on.

Back in 1990 I was rebuilding the "El Caballo" with Ak Miller, and spent quite a bit of time at Ak's shop. It was not uncommon for Ed to stop by, driving his trusty Pinto wagon. He was never in too big a hurry to B.S. for a while. When it came time to build the big Olds mill, I sent the camshaft to Ak to deal with. He and Ed got together and reground that big stick in the middle of the night, at Isky's son's shop. I gotta tell ya, that cam made that 371 come alive. What wonderful music, from an idle right on up... Ak never would tell me the spec's and I didn't really care. Fast forward to a couple years ago. I needed a cam for my drag racer. I gave the engine spec's to the guy at Isky, and he sent me a cam. I asked if they kept shelved cams, and was told, rather sharply, that they don't have "shelves" there. All their cams are custom.... Again, that cam worked like a champ. I called back and talked to the same guy to thank him, and mentioned what a great guy Ed is, and what he had done for me before. I'm glad to hear that, he says, 'cause he's my Dad. How was I to know it was Ron I was talking to. His p***ing hit rather hard......
Best wishes to Ed and his family. That name has meant so much to so many, and the memories will last forever.....

Rest in peace. Man 104 is a good long life. I too remember the article in the 25th anniversary hot rod magazine about digging his roadster out and getting it running… when I needed a camshaft for my Chevelle a few years back and with all the flat cam horror stories, I didn’t hesitate to use an isky camshaft. Works fantastic

I don't even know what to say, other than R.I.P. Camfather. You will be missed by all who are still around and reunited with the ones that went before you. You have been and now always will be a Legend.

I was fortunate enough to meet Ed at the 2014 meltdown drags and again at the 2017 meltdown drags where I bought a poster from Ed and he signed it . Talked to him briefly , but he couldn't have been nicer . His poster has been hanging in my shop ever since. RIP Ed !

Many years ago I was loading my display after the LARS and I walked out of the trailer and there in one of my director chairs sat Ed. I stopped what I was doing sat with him and talked for at least 30 minutes about my various products. What a treat to be able to spend time with an icon in the hot rod business. For several years after that he came by just to say hello. He never forgot.

For those of you that have never seen it(shame on you) here’s the article from the 25 anniversary issue of hot rod magazine. January 1973. I am going to say this out loud for everyone to hear. This is the greatest issue of any magazine ever printed. If you don’t have one in your library you had better get one….

Unfortunately even our heroes, however invincible and immortal they seem, must move on and leave us behind. Thanks, Ed. You were an inspiration for so many of us, young and old alike.
