I picked up this 37 21 stud flathead and today I pulled the heads off to look them over they have AP & BF and a number maybe 38 cast into the head right below the water pump flange. I was wondering if that might have been who the heads were made for or ???? Would like to find out more info on them maybe trace them back to who or what car ran them. The engine came from a house where i bought a 1925 Ford t roadster 70’s Oakland roadster show car but after research found out it was a race car in its earlier life. I was told the engine could have been in the car in the early 50’s when it was purchased but foggy info any help is appreciated.

No help on your question, but what did the rest of the engine look like? Valve work(ports?) Cam? Crank/pistons? Ignition?

Those are probably just pattern or production quality control numbers. I bet they were all there long before the heads hit the speed shop.

That looks like a serious engine. Ported, relieved, is that a 1937-38 block with water pumps in the block?

The mounts on the front are 32, so it was probably mounted in a 32 ch***is.

Early crank since it has the slinger seal, not a rope seal.
