I will have used 7 J's total I ran out today so had to order a couple more to finish the other side. Summit sells them individually, don't know if that was the best way to go, might have been cheaper getting a box

Here are some pictures of the floor pan.

I wanted to have as much room in here as possible so I decided to do built in seats. I played around with the back of the seat untill I got a comfortable lean angle and radius of the back. I was going to have it flat between the seats and then though it would look good to have the driveling bump carry of the back.

Traditional? Hell I don't know, but I'll be comfortable. A neat trick for a 6" chop and 4" channel. I am not real tall 5' 11" but I like to drive my cars and want to enjoy it.

Your butt will be on the floor, but then I will do a part that kicks up and supports the bottom of your leg.

Here are some shots of the tunnel. I think it turned out awesome. I spent alot of time getting all the joints really nice and tight to cut down on the welding.

In case your wondering. I used a combination of 4 lb sledge, tanks from the welder, extra wheels, tree in my front yard and a five gallon bucket as bending tools. I didn't roll anything.

Man.................................! You do such great work in such a short time!

I retired, work on my car every day, and feel like I'm never getting anything accomplished. Now you come along and make me feel more ashamed.

But seriously, nice work. Thanks for letting us share the build. You can certainly feel proud of yourself.

    Thanks guys,

Having people to share with that can appreciate it really helps in the motivational dept. I am taking a week's vacation in a week just to work on the car. So I should have some good progress pics coming up. Driving it by???

Couple more photo's for ya. First one is the final on the header collector. This weld made me finally go buy an auto dark helmet. I have been flying blind so long and as visible as this weld is it pissed me off!

Second pic. Steering box 74 bmw does not need reversing for cowl steer. $46 with tax and core charge from pick and pull. I just popped in there today just planning on finding something that would work. Payed a guy ten bucks and he pulled it out for me.[IMG]

Nice score on the box !!! That's the same one I'm going to run. What are your plans for an arm up front ? I looked at a speedway hoop but it was wayyy too short with the disc brake brackets.

I haven't figured that out yet. I may just end up making my own. I am running the round old style tie rod arms and I want something that will go along those lines. Most of the steering arms i have seen look more billet squareish. How's yours coming?

    Woooo Hooooo vacation!

My goal for the week, is to have all the major components (steering, fuel cell, pedals, roll cage, etc.) fabbed and in. After this week, should be just a matter of lights plumbing etc, and making everything that I have already done a little prettier.

Yesterday I bent up the cage, I still need to make the mounting plates and bend in some more pcs, but the perimeter is in. Its hard to take a pic of the cage in the car, but here is the outside pcs

I had temped in the pedals and steering box last week so that I could be thinking about it. I am making it a little more complicated by having hanging pedals with hydraulic clutch and brake masters inside the body. Its alot going on in such a small space.
By the end of the day today, I had the assembly a little more permanent, although I am going to hold off finalizing anything untill the steering collumn is happy and the steering arm outside the body, but it should all work. I am going to cut the pedals and refab so they are a little further forward. Because of the master cylinder they got pushed out further than I want. I am trying to get as much leg room as possible given the chop and channel.[IMG]
Last pic is of the steering collumn I am making. I didn't have bearings for it yet so a couple of washers are working for fitment[IMG]

I can't beleive this thread isn't getting more hits

This build is siaaccckkkk. seeing those pedals makes me wish I went with a 4speed...errrrr:mad: ( I got the 727 for free though ) but I guess my HEMI makes up for it. J/K... Very trick set-up man. I love the new meets old look.

I'm also going with a cage in mine. Couple questions

    1. Do you have any more pics of the sub floor and frame to floor mounting ?

    2. Are you filling the roof ? I don't think I could get in mine if I filled the roof. LOL

I'm shooting to have mine done in about 2 months, we will to have hit a few runs / shows together. 2 bad ass A's man...... I will be at billetproof fo sho

    Shiat, when is autorama ?

Who knows, maybe its not quite traditional enough?

Oh don't worry.... when I am done this thing will give that hemi a run!!

Not yet give me a couple of days.

NO I am going to take some 1" thin wal tubing cut it in half and wrap the edge to give it a smoothed over look, along with a couple down the center. Then I am going to do a leather snap cover for the top to at least hold out the wind on long hauls

You ever go out to folsom red robin on Wednesday nights?

People that aren't even car people. Probably not a good thing cuzz I think half the time people only remember cuz I was going way too fast!

Okay, so I am on vacation and my boss stops by today and talks work for 2 hours.... what the hell? Oh well it pays for the cars so I can't complain too much. But I didn't get much done today.

    Collumn mount

For the mount I took a pc of 2" tubing and cut it in half. The top pc is welded to two pcs of 1 1/4 coming directly off of the cage. I welded two nuts inside the tubing and then capped the ends. the bottom is the other half of pipe plus a couple of hunks of 1/4" welded to it for the mounting tabs

    Thanks guys,
Hamb drags are a little too far for me.
Cage is 1 5/8 .120 wall for the main pcs seat belt bar and dash bar are 1 1/4 .120 wall. This is my first cage so what is the CLR of the die? The radius?
Its safety first! Untill its safe enough for them to let me run anyway!!
