So my teapot is in need of a rebuild and isn't something I want to spend $350 right now. I forgot I have a edelbrock 1405 from my 322 nailhead. I'm wondering if this carb might work on the 255 as a temporary fix. The major issue I see is the throttle linkage on the Merc is on the passenger side and the 1405 is set up for drivers side. Any info on how to make this work would be appreciated. Sorry to sound dumb but when it came to carbs in the past I've always let a pro handle it. I'm really wanting to learn more these days. Thanks

i think you're talking about the stock intake--if so a rochester 2gc bolts on and if you turn it backwards (fuel bowl pointing to rear) that will solve linkage problems. you may have to do some clearancing so the throttle plates will open. hope that helps.

  3. A Edelbrock 1405 carburetor is a 600 CFM if I remember correctly and honestly its a little bit too large for your Flathead.I fear you might was the cylinders with too much fuel.

You really should think about a 500 CFM. HRP

A buddy bought a Holley 390 four barrel for his flatty. It was a 276 motor with heads, cam, hot ignition, headers, and it was perfect. I think any Edelbrock four barrel will be a bit on the big side. I have read that a 265 chev carb on a 255 two barrel intake works really good.
