Ah yes, The New Process 435. Beyond Bullet Proof, and the rock crawler guys love the 6.7:1 1st gear. Used in Dodge, GM, and Ford Trucks from 1962 to 1992. God Damn things even have a PTO on them. I ran one for years in my '51 F-1 behind the 351W, never broke, just couldn't stand not having OD.

I will even give it away to some one if they want to come pick the damn heavy thing up and get it out of my garage.

One 4 barrel about 600 cfm on a factory or Edelbrock intake will make a nicer driving combo as will a 3 speed Od trans out of a 58 to 64 big ford FE. I used one in a 57 ford for years with a 406 in it. 6-2s is just a good way to set fire to a nice car & cross rams never were worth a **** on FE's

Mtkawboy, i hear ya out on all that. But i always wanted a hot rod with a6x2.

Well i found a ******. How about a 1964 four speed top loader, short rear shaft,25 spline. Needs a rebuild and its out of a 289. Would this be fine?

It will if you dont power shift it or do any standing starts. A big block large input top loader would be better. You will quickly get tired of trying to keep 6-2s running right but its your car, do whatever you want.

That ****** will work fine! They didn't have the big input shaft 4 speeds till the 428 came out.

It is a 25 spline shaft. Should i convert it to a 28 spline?

how bout a zf 5spd out of a 90's f250 or 350, they can be had for around 6-700 and will handle tq just fine. they come in 3 bell patterns sbf, 385, and diesel. and all the gears will be usable if you get a g***er version

Im building a 27 coupe with a 390 also. Picked up a Offy dual quad for it cheap. As for the transmission, I would deffinitly go with the top loader! You can pick a close ratio rebuildable one for not to much and as far rebuilding them their pretty straight forward. They will hold up forever compared to a 39 trans. Good luck on the build!!
