If they do sell and the products do not change quality, I WILL still buy from them. I think that in today's economy that business is business plain and simple. We as consumers make the final say if this is good or bad, if we buy the products then they will continue to make them, if not then they close up and go away... so we (the car guys and gals) need to keep them honest... and make sure they produce a good part that we want on our Hot Rods and Customs. My $.02 .
Yeah, think Chrysler. A company with a modern and desirable lineup, bought by Diamler, screwed up beyond belief, then sold to a venture capitol group, shelled out and left for the public to bail out. The Germans outsourced everything they could, designed to a cost point, not a sales goal and ruined the place in short order.
Correct, I worked for a Chrysler dealership (still do) through 'the dark years' of Benz ownership. Let's just say I saw plenty of evidence as to why the Germans lost the war.
LAROKE, MERCEDES bought Chrysler and built one car I have a Crossfire and it is better built than anything Chrysler has built since the early 70s so I would have to differ with you,Chrysler killed there own business with throwing shit out on the market like the Daytona,Reliant k cars, and the Concord, and all their other front-wheel drive junk.just my opinion but quality speaks for itself.Look at Pontiac and their new G.T.O. joke.
This couldn't have anything to do with 'Cap & Trade', new taxes, sharing of wealth, etc.? Lots of new pitfalls for large businesses now. There is a list of recent 'acquisitions'. It's no country for foundries, steel mills, oil wells, or gas refineries any more. The glory days are fading...
German Edelbrock?! This seems like the perfect storm for Germ to come back and enlighten us on these current events.....I'm watching this thread for this rare occurance alone.
Sorry, Brad. Didn't 'splain myself well enough. I'm just sayin' that the thoroughbred engineering is very expensive to repair when it starts getting old. My boss has a 5.5 SL AMG and, ever since it has been out of warranty, it has been in the shop five or six times a year, usually with a couple of the computer systems fighting each other. The most amusing episode so far was when the boss had his kid wash the car after it came back from the shop. He managed to get some power spray on wheel sensors and it had to go right back to the shop. BTW, the boss sometimes borrows my '93 Concorde when the Mercedes is in the shop. Good for the Concorde to get some exercise since I am always drivin' the '37 truck.
Just like when Questar Group bought the successfull rebirth of Schwinn in the 90s? Nope, when vulture capitol gets ahold of a company it is never the same.
Whatever happened to loyalty? All you folks sayin that Vic worked hard and deserves to do whatever he wants with the company are wrong. Vics' Dad worked hard and acted responsibly by keeping it in the family, that was the American Way, handing over the reins/product/customers/goodwill where the company had a higher responsibility to all the good folks that worked to make it great and the community that supported it. We are speculating and assuming the worst will happen, but the very best that will happen is that we have lost one of our own. The fact that Mr. Edelbrock feels he has the right to sell to overseas 'venture capitalists' that know nothing of hot rodding nor the traditions while Mr Edelbrocks own cover of his catalogs and first pages are a testiment to traditional hot rodding lets me believe that he is a hippocrite at the least. Exactly what more can he want, he is a multimillionair, what more can he get out of selling his fathers' company? It is his name and his fathers' name that is up for sale and he has no respect for that?
Didn't the K Car save Chrysler ? They certainly sold a bunch of them. Detroit needs people who understand how to make and SELL cars, someone like Lee Iococca. Hands On practical people, not stuffed suits with fluffy Degrees and deep pockets.
How many once proud American brand names, have been bought up, and moved all their production offshore ? Wanna start a list ?
If this is true and it does go through, don't expect the business to stay the same as it is now. Theere's no way domestic manufacture or sourcing can even come close to the China price.
Look at how many copies of Edelbrock's product are flooding the market- that's the reason Vic had the Made in USA logo applied to their stuff. The copies all come from China- slight revision and *PRESTO!* new product Maybe their manifolds will start fitting without machining....
IMO, this sale is all about Edlebrock not being able to continue their financing and operational loans to stay in business. I heard that after, what, 70 years in business the thieving "too big to fail" banks just cut them off. And before you say "why do they need loans", Edlebrock is a huge business with huge OEM contracts and huge payrolls. Every business their size uses cash-flow financing. Plus you might have heard the financial geniuses also caused a major economic bust too. No jobs, no customers. And, this is the second time Edlebrock went to the market. Vic bought the company back from the Wall Street mob a few years ago.
just another piece of americana gone as I see it...we have been sold out as a nation, and money's not everything, where is the so called pride printed on every piece, it sucks if you ask me,... and don't reply with some smart ass remark I don't want to hear it !
you got it , where's vics bail out with my money ...ohh thats right he don't sell those hoopty 24" wheels.
It's all about the 'All Mighty Buck'. Vic got the offer he couldn't refuse. I can't blame him for that.
Tell you what, when you start a parts company with tens of millions in revenue, you can do whatever you want. Sorry that you don't agree with it, but it's not your choice.
What makes you guys think that Edelbrock isn't already "partially owned" by an investment group now? The market has tanked and Edelbrock is lucky to get any interest at all from a capital investment group inside or outside of the US! I say good for him. Hopefully with some more money they can get things turned around. I think you guys as consumers don't get to see what really happens behind the closed conference room doors of some of these businesses. You'd be very very surprised to find out who really "owns" what and how much of it they actually own. This is not at all black and white. There is a very large grey area that these companies operate within. Basically, all of this BS is total clueless speculation. I seriously suggest you guys find something better to do besides cry about this. Seriously.
All this back and fourth discussion about the fate of Edelbrock is fine, but this is still just a RUMOR! I spent a little time this morning searching the internet on business news sites, etc. and found nothing. Not even a hint. So until we know something for sure, this all remains just a rumor, nothing more.
