Hi everyone, going down my list of things to do trying to check some stuff off, and started messing with my intake and carbs for a sedan I’m putting together . I bought this old polished 4x2 with chromed 97’s and all the stuff that ties it together from a guy who didn’t know what it was. Looks fairly unmistakeably an old Edelbrock 4x2 that’s just been polished down. But the more I look at it I wonder what the deal is with the heat riser ports? I’m lucky enough to have a couple of these intakes and this one just looks weird . Did someone heat it up and tweak the heat riser ports maybe to fit a studebaker? From what I can see there’s never been welding done . And the mounting tabs on both sides have a little twist to them that’s the same on both sides like it’s intentional. But other then that I’m not quite sure. Haven’t checked to see if the riser ports will even line up with a cadillac head but I might have to just block them off and run it cold . Any info or opinions on what was done would be appreciated . Also found whoever put this setups name engraved on one of the carbs . Would be curious to know more. I robbed the carbs and linkages and just set them on another intake just to see. It’s also got some stamping underneath that my others don’t have . Wonder if the previous owner did that too “ETG”

While the heat ports on your manifold DO...looked "F"ed up, that's one place the Stude and the Cad are VERY close to the same, vs. the bolt pattern and the "actual" port placement.
Plus the Stude heat ports are very close to the same size as the actual intake port, NOT the oddly trapezoid shaped openings on your manifold. Plus as I say, they appear too small for the Studebaker head.
As long as they fully seal the crossover port on your heads, I wouldn't worry

    Good luck.

Man, I don't know what happened to that manifold, and I can't think of a good reason to do that intentionally. I wonder if the heat riser in the exhaust manifold was stuck shut and all the exhaust from that side of the engine had to go through the intake heat passage?
here is what it is supposed to look like
