I'm a Holley guy so I don't know much about these carbs. AVS2 650. Had a pretty good backfire through the carb and it won't rev without stumbling/missing pretty badly now. Verified it is the carb by changing it out and not having the stumble/miss. What happens inside these carbs when you get a backfire through them that would cause these issues? I use this AVS2 as my mileage carb, while I use a larger Holley HP for power, so I'd like to get it fixed so I can continue using it. Thanks!!
They're pretty tough and they don't have a Holley style power valve. I'd suspect something as simple as a blown gasket or something obvious.
First, make sure you don't have a vacuum leak in the form of base gasket or other connection. Then, check the accelerator pump. You can see the squirter with the air cleaner off. After that, check the rods to see if the pistons are moving freely. Honestly, there is little to go wrong. Also, verify that you distributor is advancing. These are the first things to check.
Also check the spring on the secondary air door. The backfire might have affected the operation of that door. The carb top to base gasket is good to check as well.
It's definitely in the carb, it's running like a swiss watch with the Holley on it. I'll take a look at the things mentioned here. Thanks!!
