i'm doing a draw through turbo on a 302 gmc six, the configuration more less makes me mount the 600 Edelbrock carb back wards. has anyone done this?? i had a guy tell me that the secondary's will open erratically because of the counter weight on them is working backwards. give me your ideas... thanks Jay D.

  2. dunno about backwards, but I have one mounted sideways on a 300 six. Seems to work fine. even on corners...

the counter weight really doesn't care about which way the carb is facing, does it?

I like small base Rochester 2G carburetors on street driven flatheads, and have done several. They are much easier to to hook up when mounted backwards. Doing so has never caused any problems.

I saw one on a flathead with a 144 blower in a '40 that was mounted backwards... because he said it was easier to hook up the throttle. He said it worked great!

Max wedge cross ram Carters were mounted sideways. Same carb as edelbrock. Didn't slow them down.

  8. I've floored my 650 Edelbrock in reverse and it acted just like it did doing the same in drive lol

    What he said !!
The only possible problem is uncovering the jets on hard acceleration.
You CAN do like the Holley jet "extenders", form a bent tube to face the deeper area of gas, so the jets stay covered in gas under acceleration.

Don't ask others that are only...guessing ! Give it a try.

    It'll work fine backward.

I don't know about these carbs, but if it were a genuine Carter, I would suggest an A/F gauge to see what the A/F was doing under hard, extended acceleration. There might be an issue with the floats dropping as they should, allowing the fuel bowl levels to drop to an unacceptable level.

Testing is going to be the answer.

Mounted backwards and at a severe angle on my ‘66 Correct Craft. Runs great.

Edelbrocks mounted forwards are known to slosh fuel on hard left turns and choke out the motor, especially if the floats are a little high. (don't ask me how I know)

Depending on which way they're mounted, I wonder how that works on a sideways mounted carb?

Mount them however you need too. Sometimes there isn't enough room for "normal" mounting. dominator 8v.jpg

  18. I do not think the carb knows the difference, only how it flows through the intake.

There were two kinds of "marine" conversions on the iron manifolds. First was the Wedge adapter plate between carb and manifold and the second was aftermarket "marine" intake manifolds that actually were wedged to flatten out the carb mount. More modern conversions are just angle mounted carbs. Raise the float level and slosh. Dad sold boats for near 40 years of his life. Saw a lot of marine conversions. Good, Bad and the UGLY.

I'm currently running a Motorcraft 2100 2bbl crosswise on an Offenhauser 360 4bbl manifold 300 Ford 6 . Every time I make a hard right hand turn at speed, it starves for fuel for a second, dies then comes back just after the turn. Learned to live with it.
