Well, I think you must have the hot wire going to the choke hooked to a circuit that is hot all the time, not just when the ignition is on. That would certainly cause it to get super hot.
I used to work for Holley, machining NASCAR carbs, the old split pro stock carbs, and blower cases. I'm a Holley guy thru and thru. Last RPU I had had two Edelbrocks on it when I bought it. Car ran good so he'll if it ain't broke don't fix it. As far as the choke I've got a 600 Holley on a 64 vette does the same gets pretty warm.
I'm actually interested in seeing one of these (holly) carburetors. Anybody got a good close up picture of the name on the carb?
