I just purchased an old Edelbrock Torker 289 manifold for my 302. The carb sits high and is turned a bit clockwise. Can anyone tell me a little about this manifold? It looks like it'll be a good breather at high rpm, but a pain down around idle.
i had one of those intakes for a big block chevy...and they are great. i think the rpm range is like 3500- 7500 or something like that. the carb sits at an angle to help even out lean / rich conditions. some cylinders will run richer /leaner than others, and with the carb on an angle, it helps direct the fuel into the intake runners more evenly...plus it looks cool as hell. it's a great intake...as long as you have the cam, heads and stall converter to make it work when it should. actually, i had a 3500 stall converter when i had this intake. it's definitly a high end breather...but it works good on the street with the right combo of parts.
RPM range is 1500-6000,keep the carb CFM around 600 the Holley 1850 is a good carb to use and the price is one of the lowest,if you are running a auto trans Holley has a 600 with Ford kickdown linkage.A good cam to use is from Summit, the part # is SUM-K3600 this includes lifters for $89.95 the specs are the same as the Ford Motorsports grind at less than half the price ask the sales rep to hook you up with the right springs and pushrods as SBF's had different lengths depending on the year of the heads.Don't worry about low end this intake doesn't have huge runners so velocity at lower rpms isn't a problem, and the vacuum secondary carb won't overload it.
