Hi Just sharing in case anyone is chasing a vacuum leak on an Edelbrock. My car was running a "little off". It idled in gear(automatic) at 600rpm. After it got good and hot, the idle climbed to 1000-1100 rpm. I looked at the usual. Hoses, connections and gasket surfaces. Couldn't see anything wrong. Then today, as I was looking at the engine for another reason, I noticed the front carb (oh yeah. I should mention the car has two carbs) Well the front carb has a little br*** plug in the area of the choke mounting holes. The rear carb didn't. Just a hole. I thought, No F'n way. Can't be that simple. I started the car and put my finger over it and yup...****ing like a Hoover. I never gave it a second thought. It just looked like another hole to mount the electric choke. So, I plugged it and it's all good. Anyone ever have that plug blow out before? Here is a picture of the hole. Screwdriver pointing at hole.
good find - what model carb? - any idea what was mounted to side of carb using so many flat threaded bosses ? open one you found for a vacuum hose ******?
That's the vacuum source for the choke pull off. If the carb has a round choke coil housing with the pulloff piston inside it, then there would be a rubber washer sealing the p***age. If it has a divorced choke, then there is a ****** there, and a hose feeding the pulloff diaphragm. If the carb had a manual choke then there should not be a hole there.
oh...here's a picture of what Edelbrock thinks the carb looks like with a manual choke...notice the plug?
I see the plug but mine with automatic choke has had a hole since new with the vacuum leak .I guess I will find a plug.
Yes. Thank you for posting the picture. I wanted to take a picture of my front one to show the plug but, you saved me the h***le. However, this is where, once again, I am a victim of my own stupidity. I took off the electric choke several weeks ago and installed a cable to control it manually. I just went out and looked at the e-choke body I have on a shelf and sure enough, there is a little o-ring that mates up with that hole. Sometimes I think I should just buy a 2023 Honda and leave the Hot Rods to the real hot rodders...lol But, I love them too much
