Well the bendix gear or starter gear went on my 1958 edsel Pacer with the 361 so I was curious if anyone has a picture break down of the gear because I think mine is missing a part or two. Also, does a 1958 Ford starter gear work on this?? Thanks in advance!!

I believe Ford "Bendix" drives are much the same...other than "tooth count". I'd just match it up with a new one, if it has the same # of teeth, it should be ok .

  3. The Edsel 361 is simply a Ford 352 bored +.40. The Ford will fit.

Probably your best course of action is to haul the starter into a good starter/generator/alternator shop that's been around a while. They most likely can tell you what's missing if anything and be able to hunt down the part (s) needed to fix it a lot easier than the kid at the local parts house who can't find ED what in the computer.

I bought a bendix for a pre-'64 Ford [extended bendix starter] just a year ago from our local parts house, you might check to see that you can still get one locally.
