I searched but haven't seen anyone with this particular problem....... 58 Corsair, a recent purchase that someone had started but has sat for a few years. It won't shift by button selection out of the last gear you were in when its warm out. ???? If you disconnect the linkage at the trans it shifts great by hand. I have been driving this car in and out of the shop since December with no issues. A few weeks ago I took it to have the exhaust work done across town, about 6 miles. After picking the car up and arriving back at the shop it would not shift out of drive into park (it was an 80 degree day). After sitting in the shop for a few hours it worked great again, full gear selection. Since then I finally found a wiring diagram on the entire transmission electrical but my drives were in cooler weather and it was working fine so I was just doing short drives and waiting. This week in a hurry I drove it a few miles from home and took another car on a trip. When I returned and went out to drive it home it would not shift out of park. I didn't have the manual or tools with me so prime opportunity to diagnose missed!! It had been sitting outside for 6 hours (mid day heat 80 degrees) and the sun was beating in the windshield. I left it sit until dark and it shifted fine again. I feel pretty confident it's in the upper column and am leaning that way in my diagnosis but was hoping someone had experienced this???? Thanks for any help!! Barnsearcher

You may want to try building a heat shield if the original is gone. Also wrap the exhaust with heat wrap. It was an ongoing problem with my Villager even after getting the shift motor rebuilt, I even got the stator rewound. I would drive mine for an hour, park it, wait another hour for everything to cool off so it would shift again. Ah... The joys of owning an Edsel!! Posted using the Full Custom H.A.M.B. App!
